Title: Sausalito Summer Night
Group: Diesel
Lyrics
We left for Frisco in your Rambler
The radiator running dry
I've never been much of a gambler
and had a preference to fly
You said "forget about the airline,
let's take the car and save the fare."
We blew a gasket on the Grapevine
and eighty dollars on repairs
(chorus)
(chorus)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard
Hot summer night in Sausalito
Hot summer night in Sausalito
Can't stand the heat another mile
Let's drop a quarter in the meter
and hit the sidewalk for a while
I'll have a burger and a root beer
You feed the heap some of the grape
A shot of premium to boot, dear
We'll get across the Golden Gate
(chorus)
(chorus)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard
Another mile or two to Frisco
Two hundred gallons from L.A.
The engine's thumping like a disco
We ought to dump her in the bay
(chorus)
Another mile or two to Frisco
Two hundred gallons from L.A.
The engine's thumping like a disco
We ought to dump her in the bay
(chorus)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard
Cashin' all my checks
Scrapin' out my bank
Spend it on a Rambler
with a whirlpool in the tank
Look out over here
Look out over here
Watch out over there
Can't afford a blowout
'cause we haven't got a spare
(chorus)
(chorus)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard
- [Summary of the song/at least three sentences] This song is about friends who decide to go on a trip by car (a Rambler is a kind of car). The person who organized the trip said it would be cheaper to travel to Frisco (San Francisco) by car from the LA area. Unfortunately, the travelers have car trouble (blew a gasket on the Grapevine--a north/south freeway that goes through LA). So, the cost of this trip was increased and the singer is worried that they might have a blowout (a violent flat tire).
- [Why I like this song] I think this song is rather funny. I can say that the lyrics are really wonderful. It is an interesting song about travel. It gives the impression that not all trips turn out the way we want them to! I also love the guitar solo.

I think this song is very funny. I like it. It has a clean sound, The interesting line about travel is: "I've never been much of a gambler and had a preference to fly." The line means that the singer thinks flying is less risky than driving. Actually, he is right...flying is safer than driving.
I like this song, too.
I never heard that San Francisco is called Frisco.
It this common in English?
I want to use the word! So cool!
And I like "The engine's thumping like a disco
We ought to dump her in the bay"
Oh, the engine is a girl? haha!
This travel sounds terrible,
but I want to join! it's nice!
Koharu, you noticed something very interesting. It is very common for Americans to refer to their own vehicles as "girls," so they often call them "she" or "her."
