Title: Last Train To Clarksville
Group: The Monkees

[Lyrics]
Take the last train to Clarksville,
And I'll meet you at the station.
You can be be there by four thirty,
'Cause I made your reservation.
Don't be slow, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!

'Cause I'm leavin' in the morning
And I must see you again
We'll have one more night together
'Til the morning brings my train.
And I must go, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.

Take the last train to Clarksville.
I'll be waiting at the station.
We'll have time for coffee flavored kisses
And a bit of conversation.
Oh... Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!

Take the last train to Clarksville,
Now I must hang up the phone.
I can't hear you in this noisy
Railroad station all alone.
I'm feelin' low. Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.

Take the last train to Clarksville,
Take the last train to Clarksville,
[repeat and fade]

[Summary of the song]
This song is about a man's mind before he leave to Clarksville. He feel regret to late trying to call a woman who he loves (or loved before?). He want to see her before leaving, and singing his feeling in this song.

[Why I like this song]
I just understand the face of this song, so it might be not real contents, but I like this tempo of song. And it is painful because he couldn't tell his mind to his loving woman, though he want to see and tell. This song is showing how develop his mind, but he couldn't do anything, in very short lyrics.

What can I say Shiori? I am amazed by this choice!!! I have listened to this song dozens of times, and I love this song and the sound of the Monkees (did you notice the spelling--the Monkees didn't spell their name m-o-n-k-e-y-s for some reason). I am so impressed that you found this song.

When I was a boy, the Monkees had a comedy show on Saturday morning. The Monkees always had to solve some kind of problem that they faced. Each week, one of the Monkees' songs was featured on the program. This short video is from that Saturday morning TV program. I watched that show every week, and of course, I came to love the Monkees. Because of that show, I can name all of the Monkees: Mickey Dolenz (drummer), Peter Tork (bass), Mike Nesmith (lead guitar) and Davy Jones (tambourine) (who the girls loved because he was so cute--apparently). Here is the theme song for the show:

The Last Train to Clarksville was a big hit, and the Monkees had a number of hits, but the Monkees biggest hit was either I'm a Believer (originally written by Neil Diamond, I think) or Daydream Believer (which is covered by the wonderful stadium band U2 (sometimes) when they play live concerts). (Both titles contained the word 'believer'--that's very weird.) Here are the Monkee's two biggest hits:

The Last Train to Clarksville is a sad song, isn't it? I think the saddest line is "i can't hear you in this noisy railroad station all alone." Even though it is a sad tune, I love those jangling guitars and the wonderful melody that made the Monkees famous.

Great pick-up Shiori!

I see his regret from the lyrics such as"cause I made your reservation" and "We'll have one more night together". But the music is light, isn't it? It's so interesting!
