Title: King of the Road
Singer: Roger Miller
Lyrics:
Trailers for sale or rent
Rooms to let...fifty cents.
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but..two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.
Third boxcar, midnight train
Destination...Bangor, Maine.
Old worn out suits and shoes,
I don't pay no union dues,
I smoke old stogies I have found
Short, but not too big around
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.
I know every engineer on every train
All of their children, and all of their names
And every handout in every town
And every lock that ain't locked
When no one's around.
I sing,Trailers for sale or rent
Rooms to let, fifty cents
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but, two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.
1. Summary of the song:
The lyrics tell of a hobo who despite being poor revels in his freedom. They jump onto a trailers, boxcar and train and enjoy their life of the nature in the United States. And it describes himself humorously as the "king of the road". Miller mentioned writing it while in the Chicago area.
2. Why I like this song:
When I listened to the song, I come to want to travel freely without deciding the destination. I like this relaxed tune.

I really like the tone of this song!
I want to find more songs like this.
And when I listened to it, I thought that only richness is not our happiness.

Ah yes; this is the classic travel song. I'm so happy that someone chose this song. I've always liked this song because I like Roger Miller's voice.
As you might have guessed, this song is quite old (1964)--even I think it is an oldie!!!
As you mentioned, he is a hobo and that is why he is the "King of the Road." I often thought it would be interesting to travel around the country riding on freight trains...but I think it is actually very dangerous, and I certainly wouldn't want to try this in cold weather!!
Great play--a true travel classic.
This song is very simple, only the guitar and voice and with hands!!!
I was surprised a lot.
This song gives me warm.
his voice and the slow tempo makes me comfortable. poor trvel looks fascinating than luxurious travel!!
