Title: Home for a Rest
Group: Spirit of the West
[Lyrics]
You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a month, I've been drunk since I left
These so-called vacations will soon be my death
I'm so sick from the drink I need home for a rest
We arrived in December and London was cold
We stayed in the bars along Charing Cross Road
We never saw nothin' but brass taps and oak
Kept a shine on the bar with the sleeves of our coats
You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a week, I've been drunk since I left
And these so-called vacations will soon be my death
I'm so sick from the drink, I need home for a rest
Take me home
Euston Station the train journey north
In the buffet car we lurched back and forth
Past old crooked dykes through Yorkshire's green fields
We were flung into dance as the train jigged and reeled
You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a week, I've been drunk since I left
And these so-called vacations will soon be my death
I'm so sick from the drink, I need home for a rest
Take me home
By the light of the moon, she'd drift through the streets
A rare old perfume, so seductive and sweet
She'd tease us and flirt, as the pubs all closed down
Then walk us on home and deny us a round
You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a month, I've been drunk since I left
And these so-called vacations will soon be my death
I'm so sick from the drink, I need home for a rest
Take me home
The gas heater's empty, it's damp as a tomb
The spirits we drank now ghosts in the room
I'm knackered again, come on sleep take me soon
And don't lift up my head till the the twelve bells at noon
You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a month, I've been drunk since I left
And these so-called vacations will soon be my death
I'm so sick from the drink, I need home for a rest
Take me home
[Summary of the song]
This song is about a man who travels England by train and a buffet car.
While he traveling, he drank alcohol a lot and seems really tired.
I think he traveled another place to escape from his situation, but as you can see in lyrics, “Take me home,” his desire is going back to home.
[Why I like this song]
I like this song because there are many musical instruments, such as accordion and traditional instrument, looks like flute are used in melody and the vocalist’s voice is really nice!
In addition, the lyrics of this song are not so happy, however, melody is so exciting.
Don’t you think it is funny? I like that kind of songs so much!

This is a very unusual choice sung by band which I had never heard of until I listened to it just now. I think that we can certainly hear an Irish influence in the music of the song.
I actually loved this song from the first listen. I agree with your opinion about the use of various instruments to produce music. I tend to like songs where the artists use many instruments as well. I am guessing, but probably this song is typical of "Spirit of the West." The band reminds me a lot of band that I do know well and like very much--"The Pogues." Here is my favorite song by the Pogues (called "If I should Fall from Grace with God"). If you like the Spirit of the West song, I am pretty sure that you will like the Pogues. I like to hear all of the names of the places that are mentioned in the Spirit of the West song. It makes me want to visit those places in the UK.
It's a very cool song. I really liked it!

The melody and instrument are so funny! They are light, but the lyrics are lonely. I know you like this kind of song.
i like his voice and instrument in this song.
and i could see the merits not only of traveling place, but also of home.
