Title:When I Paint My Masterpiece
Singer:Elliot Smith (cover) , Bob Dylan
Oh, the streets of Rome are filled with rubble,
Ancient footprints are everywhere.
You can almost think that you're seein' double
On a cold, dark night on the Spanish Stairs.
Got to hurry on back to my hotel room,
Where I've got me a date with Botticelli's niece.
She promised that she'd be right there with me
When I paint my masterpiece.
Oh, the hours I've spent inside the Coliseum,
Dodging lions and wastin' time.
Oh, those mighty kings of the jungle, I could hardly stand to see 'em,
Yes, it sure has been a long, hard climb.
Train wheels runnin' through the back of my memory,
When I ran on the hilltop following a pack of wild geese.
Someday, everything is gonna be smooth like a rhapsody
When I paint my masterpiece.
Sailin' 'round the world in a dirty gondola.
Oh, to be back in the land of Coca-Cola!
I left Rome and landed in Brussels,
On a plane ride so bumpy that I almost cried.
Clergymen in uniform and young girls pullin' muscles,
Everyone was there to greet me when I stepped inside.
Newspapermen eating candy
Had to be held down by big police.
Someday, everything is gonna be diff'rent
When I paint my masterpiece.
[summary of this song]
This song is about traveling to Roma may be with his girlfriend.
He walk at Roma's street, and he went many places with a girl. Then he went Brussels. He travelled Roma's famous places like Coliseum, and he he enjoyed his travel.
[why I like this song]
I like this song's rhythm. It's slowly, so I can listen comfortably.
And I also like his voice. Unfortunately, I can't find Bob Dylan's version, but his voice is also nice.
I wanted to travel Roma after listening this song.

Well, what can I say? You chose a Bob Dylan song, so I have to give you a deep bow just for that!! Bob Dylan is from Minnesota, so I have to like him :-) (just kidding, Prince is also from Minnesota and I really don't like his music much).
It is interesting that the Bob Dylan version uses the words "Boticelli's niece," but in the Elliot version, I notice that he uses the words "little girl from Greece." Nevertheless, the Dylan version is the original so I am happy to see those lyrics. By the way, this song was also performed by the Grateful Dead (surprisingly) and by the Band (not surprising as Dylan and the Band's members were good friends). If you would like to hear the Dylan version, I found it on Youtube. It is classic early Dylan:

I love the line, "Oh to be back in the land of Coca-Cola." Of course, the land of Coca-Cola is the US. When singers use Coca-Cola in their songs, it usually is associated with the US. Because I drink Coke Zero all of the time, this line caught my eye.
I never thought anyone would choose a Dylan song. Nice play!
